Swaranjit Singh Khalsa who is currently serving as Member on “Commission of City Plan” of Norwich, “Norwich Inland Wetland Commission” and on “Norwich Community Development Commission” also recently got Elected to “Norwich Board of Education”.
Municipal Elections took place on Nov 5th 2019 in Connecticut and Singh was one of the candidates who won with good margin.
Swaranjit Singh Khalsa is first Sikh elected Offical of Connecticut State in past 2 decades and at this point the only Sikh Elected Offical in Connecticut.
Singh Khalsa one of the active leader of Connecticut Sikh Community and has been vocal on sharing resentments of Sikh Community with Indian Govt. on issue of 1984 Sikh Genocide and helped Sikh community in advocacy for legislation that was passed last year by Connecticut to recognize Nov 1st as “Sikh Genocide Remembrance Day” every year.
Recently Singh Khalsa also played major role in “1984 Sikh Genocide Memorial” placement in Otis Library which was removed due to intense political pressure and Interference of Indian Govt. while Prime Minister Modi was on his tour to America.
While talking to our reporter Swaranjit Singh said “I am Proud of all the work and advocacy I did for Sikh Community and now I look forward to do the same for fellow americans and Norwich Community Members”.
He said “I am just amazed to see all the support I got for my elections for various US Federal,State and local officals and specially from All the faith based communities like Hindus,Sikhs,Jewish,Baha’i and Muslim Community”.
During elections campaign Lt. Governor of Connecticut Susan Bysiewicz, US Congressman Joe Courtney,State Senator Cathy Osten,State Representative Kevin Ryan and Emmett Riley supported Singh and his Democratic team to get elected”.
Singh Khalsa also said “It was a team effort and all the members of Democratic Town Committee and candidates worked hand in hand to get Majority back in Board of Education and City Council.”
Jaspal Singh local community member said “It is proud movement of Sikh Community and people of Punjab that one of their own who when to America for Higher studies is not only now running successful business and getting politically active but also raising voice for Sikh Nation and have courage to highlight Human rights violations going on In India.“
Many Sikh Institutions including Gurudwara Sikh Cultural Society Newyork honored Swaranjit Singh Khalsa for his achievements and devotion to Sikh causes.
